EXTREME BAND, GENRE FUNKY

Extreme is an American rock band, headed by frontmen Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt, that reached the height of their popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Among some of Extreme's musical influences are Queen and Van Halen. (Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt joined Queen onstage at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992 and Gary Cherone joined Van Halen in 1996); The band have described their music as "Funky Metal". They have released five studio albums, two EPs (in Japan) and two compilation albums since their formation. The band was one of the most successful rock acts of the early 1990s, selling over 10 million albums worldwide. Extreme achieved their greatest success with their 1990 album Pornograffitti, which peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200, and was certified gold in May 1991 and 2×platinum in October 1992. That album featured the acoustic ballad single "More Than Words", which reached #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 in the United States. Extreme reformed for a short tour in 2004 playing in the Azores (August), in their hometown of Boston at the WAAF anniversary (Sept.19) as well as a few concerts in Japan (January 2005). After a hiatus during 2005, the band returned in 2006 with the "classic" Pornograffitti line-up to do a small, three-show reunion tour through New England. On November 26, 2007, the band announced plans for a world tour in the summer of 2008 with King's X as well as a release date for their new album, Saudades de Rock, produced by Bettencourt. Kevin Figueiredo, who played with Bettencourt in DramaGods and Satellite Party, took over drum duties for the band. Original drummer Paul Geary is still involved with the band, albeit in a management position. Singles from the album have been available on MySpace including "Star". The album was released on July 28, 2008 in France, August 4, 2008 in Europe, and August 12, 2008 in the United States. The band then embarked on the Take Us Alive World Tour, supported by King's X in the US and Hot Leg in the UK, with various other dates in Europe and Asia, through all of 2008. In 2009, the band continued to tour, co-headlining the East Meets West Tour with Ratt.

MR. BIG BAND

Mr. Big is a hard rock group that formed in 1988. The band is a quartet composed of Eric Martin (vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitar), Billy Sheehan (bass), and Pat Torpey (drums); Mr Big also included Richie Kotzen, a reputable blues-based guitarist who replaced Gilbert in 1999. The band is noted especially for their musicianship, and scored a number of hits. Their songs were often marked by strong vocals and vocal harmonies. Their hits include "To Be With You" (Billboard Hot 100 number one single in 15 countries for weeks, in 1991) and "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind". Mr Big have remained active and popular for over two decades, despite internal conflicts and changing music trends. They broke up in 2002, but after requests from fans reunited in 2009; their first tour was in Japan, in June 2009. On February 1, 2009, a radio announcement for "Koh Sakai’s Burrn Presents: Heavy Metal Syndicate" contained a short message from Mr Big announcing the reunion in Japan to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their debut album. A press conference in Japan in February generated much excitement, and a tour of the country starting in June was announced, with shows in ten locations (including the Budokan). They held their first reunion concert outside Japan at Rock Cafe in Tallinn, Estonia on September 2009 continuing their tour. Warner Music Japan released remastered copies of their four studio albums, as well as a greatest hits CD and DVD. There are two bonus studio songs on the album, new track "Next Time Around", and a cover of Argent's "Hold Your Head Up"

Selalu saja ada cerita dibalik sosok Diego Maradona. Gol Tangan Tuhan ketika menyingkirkan Inggris di Piala Dunia 1986, perawatan karena kokain, penunjukan sebagai pelatih tim nasional Argentina, sampai permintaan dua toilet mewah--yang menurut cerita media lokal bernilai US$ 311 atau sekitar Rp 2,86 juta--di dua kamar mandi penginapannya selama di Afrika Selatan, selalu menjadi cerita di seluruh dunia. Nah, saat melakoni debut Piala Dunia-nya, ketika Argentina menundukkan Nigeria 1-0 di Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesburg, Sabtu kemarin, Maradona terlihat sedikit beda. Ia tampil resmi memakai jas! Kenapa begitu penting? Selama ini Maradona memang dikenal sebagai sosok yang ogah berpakaian rapi. Sejak ditunjuk sebagai pelatih Albiceleste tahun 2008, pemain yang mengantar Argentina menjadi juara pada 1986 itu lebih sering terlihat menggunakan kaos tim, kalau nggak training, atau ber-jaket. Sekarang tumben-tumbennya Maradona menggunakan jas. Ternyata ada alasan dibalik kenapa Maradona akhirnya mau tampil necis pada debutnya itu; permintaan putrinya Dalma dan Giannina. Dalma bersama Dalma meminta Maradona untuk tampil lebih elegan sebagai pelatih di Piala Dunia pertamanya itu. "Saya selalu meminta saran Giannina. Dia lebih tahu soal fashion daripada saya," kata Dalma yang ikut serta bersama Maradona. "Kami meminta dia memakai jas." Maradona memang dikenal sangat dekat dengan keluarganya. Ia bahkan menyebut cucunya, Benjamin--anak Giannina dengan Sergio 'Kun' Aguero yang juga striker Argentina, sebagai Cabala--jimat keberuntungan masyarakat keturunan Argentina-Spanyol. Benjamin tiba di Afsel Jumat kemarin bersama ibunya dan Claudia, istri Maradona. Yang tidak berubah adalah manik-manik Rosario serta dua jam di masing-masing tangannya. Satu untuk menunjukkan waktu lokal dan yang satu lagi waktu Argentina. Satu lagi, pelatih 50 tahun itu sekarang terlihat memelihara jenggot. Kenapa? "Dia tak pernah bercukur sejak indisen (digigit) anjing. Untuk menutupi lukanya," kata Dalma. Maradona mengalami insiden diserang oleh anjingnya sendiri pada bagian wajah, akhir Maret lalu.
